Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is generally performed because something has caused the death of the tooth nerve (cavities, trauma, etc). A root canal is performed by accessing the nerve space within the tooth, and then cleaning out any remaining nerve tissues and/or bacteria from inside the root canal system. This is generally done using a system of files and disinfectants which help to ensure proper cleaning of the tooth, which is then sealed with a special rubber-like material called Gutta Percha. After the root canal spaces have been filled, the tooth is then restored to optimum form and function with traditional filling materials and/or crowns.
